Picking up from Amazon Locker: A Review
There are no stupid questions. Except maybe “do you want to share some black licorice?” But that’s just because we black licorice lovers know that no one ever wants a piece.
Other than that, NO STUPID QUESTIONS!
So, if you somehow ended up here, wondering what the deal is with Amazon Locker, what it’s like to pick up an order from one of them, well we’ve got real-world experience to share with you. That’s what reviews are about, after all, sharing one’s experience so that others can learn and make informed decisions for themselves.
So What is Amazon Locker?
At its most basic, it’s a locker owned by Amazon, which you can get your orders shipped to, sometimes.
So pretty, huh?
As you see, they are colorful lockers, sometimes in buildings (I’ve seen them in a fancy gas station), sometimes outside (I’ve seen them outside a strip mall).
But you might notice that, unlike your high school locker, there’s no combination lock here. And some of those pictured above have screens to interact with, but not all of them. So how’s that work?
First of all, you’ll need the Amazon app on your phone.
You won’t need to app to send something to the locker, but you will need it to open the locker. To send it there, simply check the Shipping Address in your cart, you might have free pickup nearby.
One or more locations will be available, along with the location and times listed. If it’s convenient for you, if it’s near work, if you’re trying to save on shipping or trying to hide how much you’re ordering from Amazon, well then, ship your junk here instead.
And make sure you have the app.
Once the package is ready, you’ll get an email telling you to pick it up (if you’re not there quick enough, they’ll return it for a full refund).
As you pull up, pull up the app:
Yeah, remember how those lockers had no visible locks or handles? We’re going with the tech these days, gramps!
Give the Amazon app permission to use bluetooth, get close to that locker, click Open Locker in the app, and whammo:
It opens!
Then, like the little mankind avoiding rodent you are, you can grab your package and scurry away into the darkness!
I’m a little rat, too, don’t worry. And I just did this myself for the first time.
If you’re a Prime member, I can’t really see the benefit over having something delivered to your house or office or wherever. But maybe you have reasons! If you do, now you know what to expect. It is, all things considered, pretty darn painless.
AND let’s say you own a business and you want to increase the foot traffic with something other than a Wild Cherry Pepsi machine. You guessed it, you can join up and have one of these lockers on your little spot of land.
